The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Health Care Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) is a patient satisfaction survey that is required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to all adults who receive inpatient care, excluding psychiatric patients. HCAHPS is the voice of the patient regarding his or her perception of the care provided while in our care. The survey results are publicly reported, so everyone can see what the standards are for a particular hospital. The survey is a set of questions that are related to health care specifically (HCAHPS Fact Sheet, 2017).

a. What is the purpose of the HCAHPS star rating?
The purpose of HCAHPS star rating, which was added on April 2015, summarizes the results for each HCAHPS measure and demonstrate the results in a simple, easy to read, and comprehensible format that a potential health care purchaser can use. b. What are the three main categories and the HCAHPS composites for those who receive star ratings?
There are three main categories that the HCAHPS will measure. These categories include; the composite measures, individual items, and global items. The summary of the star rating encompasses a seven star rating from each of the seven composite measures. The seven composite measures consist of the nurse and doctor communication, responsiveness of the hospital staff, pain management, communication/education regarding medication, discharge information, and care transition. The single star rating are given for individual topics, which consists of the cleanliness and the quietness of the hospital environment. A final single star rating is related to the global topic. A second intervention for better communication is the prevention of medical terms when explaining a medical condition. It is important to explain in the simplest form possible, even if the patient/family has some medical training.
Interventions for better nurse communication with nurses is making sure when talking to the patient and family, not to look at the computer screen when asking a patient or family a question. At RCRH, the room computers are mounted on the wall. A second intervention is making sure that each procedure is explained thoroughly. A lot of times the parents are just as frightened as the child. A third intervention for better nurse communication is to include everyone in the family regarding any teaching that is needed. Even if the child is young, he or she should also be included whenever teaching is
