Healthcare organizations such as nursing homes continuously attempt to pursue quality performance to improve clinical outcomes and patient experiences. Patient safety is an essential and vital component of quality nursing care. This paper discusses many important quality measures such as health inspections, medical and behavioral standards and staffing for Mecklenburg Health & Rehabilitation Center, nursing home.
Quality of nursing home care is a major deciding factor for recovering from illness or injury. Rating of the facility were based on health inspection, staffing, quality measures. Overall rating for Mecklenburg facility was 1 out of 5 stars and health inspection was also 1 out of 5 stars, staffing seems to be adequate with a rating of 3 stars, and quality measures were much below average with a ranking of 1 …show more content…
Reducing the inappropriate use of antipsychotic drugs in nursing homes can assist in improving dementia and other health issues. Adequate staffing is critical to a safe and healthy environment. Without enough nurses and aides, patient’s care suffers. A resident can become malnourished, fight urinary tract infections, become prone to bed sores and potentially progress to a potentially threatening infection if adequate staffing is not provided by the facility. Another factor to determine adequate staffing is staff turnover. Heavy turnover demonstrates indication of unhappy workers, whose dissatisfaction could mean worse care (How to Choose a Nursing Home, n.d.). According to my clinical experience and observation, communication between residents and team members is very crucial. Failing to report any negligence is a violation and can harm a patient and the facility. Mecklenburg Health and Rehabilitation Center must provide each resident a notice of rights, rules, services and charges as well as installing better fire alarm system which can be heard through entire facility according to the policies.
