Hotel California In The 1970s
The Eagles are the most successful American rock band of the 1970s, formed in Los Angeles in 1971. The members that have played in the band are Randy Meisner, Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon. They have successfully made ten albums and are still a band today.

Hotel California was the Eagles fifth album and was their best selling album (despite The Eagles Greatest Hits). The album was made on Asylum (a recording company) in late 1976. This is their first album without one of their founding members, Bernie Leadon, and their first album with guitarist and singer Joe Walsh. The songs include, “Hotel California”, “New Kid in Town”, “Life in the Fast Lane”, “Wasted Time”, “Wasted Time (Reprise)”, “Victim of Love”, “Pretty Maids All in a Row”, “Try and Love Again,” “The Last Resort”. The Album had three top twenty singles, which include, “Hotel California”, “New Kid in Town” and “Life in the Fast Lane”. The genre of this album is considered rock, soft rock and hard rock (eaglesband.com).

Many times the band had to stop recording because Black Sabbath was being too loud and the sound was leaking through the walls. Also, the band ran into many problems with band member Randy Meisner. He finally left the band after the album was created, because of suffering from stomach ulcers and the flu and was unable to perform “Take it to the Limit “ at the end of the 1977 tour. Because of that, Glenn Frey was not so happy. They both broke out arguing and that was the end of Randy Meisner’s music career.(The History of the Eagle

A film titled, Life in Sacramento-1950’s, used propaganda to persuade people to move to Sacramento after World World War II. The film imagined Sacramento as metropolis for jobs, housing, life, and work. Sacramento was also promoted as a progressive and community oriented town with a great night and day life. This was targeted a white audience because of the characters depicted in the show were predominately white living in the suburbs. This propaganda promoted an imaginary of a great place for specific people. This conclusion is formed because of a separate film, on urban Sacramento, encompassing West End. In the 1959, Davis McEntire, advised a plan for Redevelopment, he called it Relocation Plan: Slum Area Labor Market Sacramento. In his plan he…

For all peoples, as with individuals, the time comes when they must reckon with their history. For the Chicano the present is a time of renaissance, of renacimiento. Our people and our community, el barrio and la colonia, are expressing a new consciousness and a new resolve. Recognizing the historical tasks confronting our people and fully aware of the cost of human progress, we pledge our will to move. We will move forward toward our destiny as a people. We will move against those forces which have denied us freedom of expression and human dignity. Throughout history the quest for cultural expression and freedom has taken the form of a struggle. Our struggle, tempered by the lessons of the American past, is an historical reality.…

Elvis Presley was only one of the big names of the 1950s, though probably one of the most recognizable. In the ‘50s television was gaining popularity and sitting down to watch T.V. was a family bonding experience. Celebrities were put on a very high pedestal, even more so than today’s celebrities. People like James Dean, Marilyn Monroe, and John Wayne were treated like royalty. In the 1950s musicians, movie stars, and T.V. stars were some of the most important people in America.…

The decade of the 1960s is most likely talked about because of the Vietnam War, but most over look what was going on in America. Back in the states the faces of angry anti- war activists were on every major street corner you looked, they protested for peace and to get their brothers out of the jungles where the vicious war took place. The sixties were also the forefront of the Civil Rights Movement for Black Americans to receive racial dignity, economic and political self-sufficiency: with voting rights, and also freedom from white Americans. Lastly the four major political assassinations of John F Kennedy, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy all took place one after another in this decade leaving the Americans in heartbreak and turmoil. Politically leaving the United States at a standpoint on what the hell is there to do next. To get away from the mess, the most effective escape of the time was the music. It changed the depressing feeling to help make the people somewhat forget what harsh realities are happening around them and give them hope. “With the music so empowering to some this brought to us what we now know as the Hippie Movement.” (Yapp). Most were fed up with the United States leading to thousands of carefree people to hard drugs and rock and roll. During the hard ships in the sixties people used music to find the glass half full instead of half empty. All of the events of the sixties had an effect on the way the people dressed then and still to this day. Self-expression of the 1960s led men and women to grow their hair long and dress freely in bright colors and daring prints that were outrageous and had never been seen before.…

The picture that comes immediately to mind when I think of the Australian rock band Midnight Oil comes from the television. I can still picture the band on the stage at the Fox Theatre - the spastic rhythmic movements of the gawky bald vocalist, Peter Garrett, dominating the stage during the Blue Sky Mining tour, backed by the Hunters & Collector's horn section on the band's breakthrough hit "Beds Are Burning" - but I can't erase the other image from my memory.…

Historians tend to portray the 1950s as a decade of prosperity, conformity, and consensus, and the 1960s as a decade of turbulence, protest, and disillusionment. These stereotypes are largely true, though, as with everything in life, there are exceptions to this perspective. Therefore, the historians’ portrayal of the 1950s and 1960s is accurate for the majority of Americans, though some groups were clearly exceptions.…

Some may call it the "fabulous fifties," but others call it a time of "tensions and insecurities." Several people think back on the fifties and remember them as the "good old days," while others think of it as a time of crisis and terror. Although Americans were faced with many hardships throughout the fifties, I think that the positive aspects such as the new technologies, growing economy, higher focus on education, and growing job opportunities of the era outnumber the negative aspects, such as racism that African Americans faced, and the changing roles of women, making the fifties an overall "happy" period in American history.…
