Being next to the sand makes him feel empty and although he does not completely know why he's running, he does know he doesn't want to be near it. The sand makes him feel as if he's lost something that he cannot recover and rather than face it, he runs.
He races for a while, never looking back, trying to depart from the unwanted feelings. Without warning, he hears in a far away voice behind him.“Stay in the sandbox Grey!”
This voice strikes him and stops him in his tracks. He attempts to start up again, but he is stopped once more by the womanly voice. “Grey!” she shouts.

He stares, with wide eyes, at the toy car, small blue bucket, and shovel in the center. The emotions that he tried so desperately to run away from, laid in front of him at his feet. A low breeze rushes in behind his ankles. It seems to welcome him to face his feelings. A part of him felt as though he had no choice. He slowly lifts his leg and hesitantly steps one foot forward. In an instant, the empty feeling hits him. Something is missing in the pit of his stomach. However, it’s not the emptiness that bothers him, it’s the questions that linger in him. He wants to know what’s missing and why. He wants to know so badly, that it frustrates him.
A small tear falls down his right eye. He pats his face and carries on to the nucleus. One by one he steps one foot in front of the other, digging his toes into his emotions, to reach the center. When he finally reaches the items that waited for him, he releases his legs and falls butt first to the ground. He grabs the shovel and bucket, digs the shovel into the sand, then throws it into the bucket. He does this contently and repeatedly until he fills the bucket. He turns the bucket over on top of the sand, lifts it and reveals a sculpted pile of sand the resembles the bucket. He goes on to do this a couple of more times before it starts to drizzle.
