A waitress approached me, she looked like she was in her 60’s. Her name tag read, “Blanche.” She had light pink hair and wore a black t-shirt with jeans, She smelled of cigarettes and cheap perfume. She said, “Sit wherever you want.” I looked around the place and saw four customers, not including me. They all looked like locals. They appeared used to the surrounding filth. I walked towards a booth a saw the photo hanging above it, dusty and old, some kind of lake house scene …show more content…
in the rain. The seats that used to be a deep red were now a faded pink with stains, holes and stretch marks. The waitress walked over, dropped a menu on my table and said, “I’ll be back in a few minutes.” I looked at the menu and it was covered in coffee stains. Something was weird about this menu, though the food was normal, but it had weird names: basic burgers, french fries, fingers of chicken, dogs on a roll, and shakes. The waitress came back and said, “What’ll you have?” Too disgusted to even eat I said, “I’ll have the fingers of chicken and a vanilla shake please.” The waitress snatched the menu from the table and walked away.
I felt as though I was being watched I scanned the restaurant looking for the creep. I saw a pile of dirt in one corner, and next to it stood a monstrous Bearded Dragon. I take it his name was Barney because there was a sign above him that read, “Do Not Feed Barney.” He just kept staring at me, I thought he was going to attack me. He started to dig and dirt was flying everywhere. No one cared, no one looked, and no one cleaned up after him.
Finally, after 20 minutes of waiting, the waitress brings me my food. “I ordered fingers of chicken,” I said. “We don’t sell that, we only sell burgers,” said Blanche. “But I-- never mind, thank you,” I said. The food was horrible the burger could be a hockey puck, the bun was stale, and the cheese wasn’t even melted. I sat there ‘eating’ my food when I overheard a conversation from the booth behind me. It was two gentlemen maybe in their forties, and they were talking about hunting. Only it didn’t sound like they were hunting animals.
I began to panic my heart started to race and my palms were sweaty. I was scared for my own safety. They could kill me right here, right now and no one would know. I got up to run to the bathroom and stumbled upon the kitchen by accident. I heard what sounded like Blanche talking to someone. “There’s something about that girl, Moe,” she said. “What do you mean?” He asked. “She’s checking the place out, not eating. I think she might rob us,” she said. “Well, what do we do? Get rid of her?” He asked. Get rid of her? I covered my mouth and ran to the bathroom.
I searched for my phone frantically, but couldn’t find it.
I must have left it at the table. I couldn’t breathe they were all trying to kill me. I walked out of the bathroom trying to calm down maybe I just heard wrong. I walked to my table and grabbed my phone. Slowly I walked to the door. “Hey! You have to pay for that!” yelled Blanche. I began to run, tears streaming down my face. “Moe, she’s a dine and dasher!” yelled Blanche, “Get her!” I was trying to find my way back to the mechanic, but I couldn’t remember where to go. I tried to call the police but my phone was dead. It was getting dark and I was all alone in the middle of
nowhere.
I must have been running for an hour when I realized the town was gone. I was running in the woods screaming “help” to the darkness. My legs were tired of running, so I sat down for a bit. I was scared and wanted to go home, but I didn’t know how. This has to be a nightmare I thought “Wake up! Wake up!” I yelled. I couldn’t help but cry. Then I heard a noise, it sounded like footsteps I covered my mouth so they wouldn’t hear me. “I think she came this way,” someone said. “I think I hear something, over there!” yelled Moe. I started to crawl hoping no one would notice me. I slowly stood up and started running. “Help!” I screamed, “Help me, please!” I finally made it to a road when I saw something it was a bright light and it was heading right for me. I waved my arms, “Stop, please stop, help me!” I screamed. The car was speeding up and I thought they weren’t going to stop I started running towards it. The lights got closer and next thing I know, I was lying on the ground staring at the stars.
I woke up in a hospital with someone shining a light in my eyes. “What happened?” I asked. “You were in a car accident on your way home last night,” said the doctor. “But, I was lost in the middle of nowhere, and I was being chased a car hit me,” I said. “No, Honey, you weren’t,” said my mom standing on the other side of my bed. “I called you, mom we were on the phone, remember?” I said, “You have to remember.” “You never called me,” she said. What’s happening? Why can’t anyone remember that I was lost? I was alone in a creepy Café with people wanting to hunt me down. It was like I dreamt the whole thing Moe’s Café was all a dream. It was almost like I was the main character in a Twilight Zone episode.
