But it is upsetting to see such ignorance. How does the amount of clothing that a women has on define the personality and beliefs of that individual. What is the meaning of these worlds because the media allows them to be defined by the amount of coverage a women has on her body. There is inaccurate portrayal considering that these standards do not apply to men. As I was researching, I found that “trashy” men were being considered this way based off of the females he was surrounded by or the action he was doing. It seems a bit unfair and unrealistic for women to be shamed for their clothing and labeled when the only difference is gender. In her article “What’s Wrong With The Media’s Portrayal of Women Today, And How To Reverse It,” Kathy Caprino states, “you’ll be as stunned as I am at dichotomy between what we are saying is possible for women today (that they can ascend to leadership, launch their own successful businesses, and sit at the board table equally with men, rather than being relegated to only 16% of corporate leadership), vs. how women are actually being depicted in the media. Danielle Scoins in the article “miss representation”, includes that “the video highlights the continued sexualisation and objectification of women in advertising, pointing to ads for Fiat, Equinox and American Apparel just to name a few. A stand out was the infamous Ford advertisement showing a cartoon of Paris Hilton with the Kardashian sisters hog-tied and gagged in the trunk of a car.” As mentioned before, there is more dominance being put on the men. For some reason it is seem as attractive and appealing for a women to express weakness and vulnerability. The wrong message is being sent, in reality women are strong, independent leaders. Instead of displaying accurate advertisements, the media puts impossible standards up for women. It is expected that a women has on enough clothes to be classy, but in order to be attractive there
