How Cake Decorating Changed Over Time
Cake decorating has changed drastically from the time when it first emerged in the mid 17th century. Cake decorating may have only started a mere 4 centuries ago but it has changed in many ways whether it be the equipment, style, designs, or ingredients.

the art of baking is believed to have started around 1175 B.C. It is believed that Babylonians taught the Egyptians the art of baking. As time went on the Egyptians started to sweeten these confections with sugar. Around 700 B.C. these confections were on sale in Egyptian markets. Over time baking became more popular as more tools and ingredients were introduced.
One of the many inventions that brought about cake decorating was the appearance of the cake pan. It is believed that the cake pan made its first appearance around the mid 17th century, the same time that cake decorating really took off. Another inventions that helped baking and cake decoratin g become more enjoyable was the temperature controlled oven. When decorated cakes were first introduced they were not served at weddings. Decorated cakes made their first appearance in England during the reign of Elizabeth I. During this time wedding cakes were more like buns with a sticky coating of almond paste. Some of these cakes were squeezed through the new couples wedding rings, some were eaten by guests, some were crumbled over the bride , some were thrown to the poor outside of the wedding. The rest of these cakes would then be piled and set before the new husband and wife, they were then expected to kiss over the cakes.
