Communism aims to eliminate the competition for individual success which capitalism endorses, and rather puts the success of society first. Greek philosopher Plato believed communism to be essential in society because “property and family relationships seemed to be the main source of dissension in the society” (Cummings). In a communistic society there is less focus on wealth and material possession, and therefore Plato believed that people could be more content with their lives because they could focus elsewhere. Equal income breaks down the class barriers and gives the community an important sense of unity. The most appealing aspect of communism to masses is the concept of universal employment. Communism gives everyone equal opportunity to make money and create a self-sufficient nation, increasing a country’s overall employment and productivity.
