How Can I Contribute To Diversity Myself

As a medical applicant or any applicant type for that matter in the healthcare field, having confidence in the strange, diverse, and unknown is something people may find hard to welcome in day-to-day interactions, particularly if people are not exposed to the diversity that truly exits; that’s why I believe that exposure diversity lends diversity itself. As a non-traditional individual myself coming from a diverse background, I grow up in a culture aware of my differences and the attention I drew to things such as my looks, accent, ideologies, etc. My first conscious understanding of diversity came with something of the sense of identification to other individuals like myself, and surprisingly, closeness and familiarity with other diverse groups
I felt far more culturally competent to meet diversity at every end. I even felt that I was a far more open-minded individual for having done that and I was finally able to embrace the diversity and inclusion of others in all settings ranging from education, to health, and personal encounters. My past experiences with a diverse society has allowed me to interact with members to the highest capacity by taking a glimpse of what their inner lives are like, how they view personal health and personal concerns, and so forth. I believe that coming into the table as a DPM applicant, these are wonderful skills to have. The ability to be able to decipher and understand how to approach situations which may feel strange or unknown is remarkable when once can understand others on a more personal level, considering a multitude of factors such as race, personality, personal beliefs and values, and more. Being able to understand individuals in diverse settings creates a worldliness in which I can address that particular individual and manage both aspects of our culture so that they merge into one promising and successful
