Thinking About Diversity and InclusionWhat are the dimensions of cultural diversity? Identify and briefly explain the dimensions by referenced both textbooks. There are many different dimensions of cultural diversity around the world. Some of these dimensions include racial groups, ethnic groups, religious groups, gender groups, and age (Schaefer, 2011). Racial groups can be defined as a group that is set apart by obvious physical differences. Ethnic groups can be set apart with culture patterns or nationality.
There are differences and similarities between groups that should be dealt with together. The components vary, as it is possible to belong to more than one minority group. Building a connection is one dimension of diversity.
With what ethnic, culture, or other groups do you identify? Describe what members of your social circle have in common. In my social circle, we identify with many different cultures and people from ethnic backgrounds. I am a white American, Christian, single female. Many of my friends are young black Americans. In my social circle, there are young people and older people. The circle includes persons from different religious backgrounds and cultures. What we have in common is the want to succeed in life and live life to the fullest. Family is important to us all.
What is the difference between diversity and inclusion? Diversity can be defined by the ways people differ that may affect organizational experience such as performance, motivation, communication, and inclusion. There is a need to recognize impact of the multiple dimensions of diversity. Diversity is existence of unique individuals in a workplace or community. Inclusion is an environment where each person has an opportunity to participate in creating success and each is valued for his or her skills, experiences, and perspectives.
