1. What is diversity? Why is diversity valued?
Diversity is basically the condition of being different and many times people think diverity is just about race and culture, but there wrong. Diversity includes different dimensions Loden and Rosener (1991) Describe two major dimensions which are primary and secondary. Primary dimensions generally states things that we cannot change which would be like age, race, ethnicity, gender, physicakl qualities, and sexual orientation. Secondary dimensions will include things such as income,education, religious beliefs, military experiece, geographic location, parental status, and marital status. Valuing diversity recognizes differences between people and acknowledges that these differences are a valued asset. Valuing diversity can be measured in three different levels which include cognitive, affective, and behavioral.
2. What is ethnocentrism? In what ways can ethnocentrism be detrimental to a society?
Ethnocentrism means preferencing and individual’s culture over the cultures of any other group. This is basically someone judging another culture just by the values and standards of one’s own culture. As far as why it is detrimental to a society it can make one be judgemental before knowing anything about that specific culture. We can not want to get to know them just because of that and this would be wrong. I feel this can cause a lot of hatred in anyones society.
3. Define emigration and immigration.
Emigration is when an individual leaves one country or region to settle in another. Immigration is when people move from one country to another and have the intentions of living there permanantly and this would refer to immigeration and the people would be the immigrants.
