WW2 was a tragedy that killed 60 million people, it brought international distrust, repressed feelings and resented economic hardship, however, could it have been prevented? The Treaty of Versailles, which formally ended the war, did little to address unresolved issues and promoted international indignation while harsh economic conditions devasted millions of people. I believe if the world leaders had addressed these issues and taken a step to international trust, help to decrease economic burdens and defuse discontent among Europe, World War II could have been avoided. In addition, it was clear that Hitler’s goal was to conquer the world. After the allies defeated Germany in WWI they dictated harsh conditions in the Treaty to restrict Germany of rearming and rebuilding. If the Allies had not hesitated and delayed when Hitler’s intentions were clear, Hitler could have been stopped much quicker and millions of lives would have been saved.

It was intended that all countries would be members of the League and that if there were disputes between countries they would be settled by negotiation rather than by force. If this failed, then countries would stop trading with the aggressive country and if that failed then countries would use their armies to fights. However, not all countries joined so they had a lack of power and were unable to act quickly. If France, Britain and Italy put a stop to Hitler from the start of his reign, he would have not gained so much power. It is clearly seen that the chance of having a war had caused a bigger fear and they did not want to risk it.
