g. The Ottomans had showed great toleration and acceptance of non-Muslim communities in their empire. This was based on the existing Muslim laws regarding the status of non-Muslims. They were protected, given religious freedoms, and were free from persecution. This was all according to Shariah.
The first time the Ottomans had to rule a large number of Christians was after they conquered Constantinople in 1453. Constantinople had a history of being the center of the Orthodox Christian world. It still had the largest Christian population. When the empire grew into Europe, there were more non-Muslims that came under the Ottoman authority. To keep control of the new Ottoman subjects, Mehmed engineered a new system which was later called the millet system.
From 1300 to 1922 was when the Ottoman Empire lasted and throughout most of the history the millet system provided a system of religious togetherness throughout the entire empire. When the empire expanded there were more millets that were organized. There were separate millets existed for the Armenian, Catholic, and Orthodox Christians, which were divided further into more regional churches. Millet systems did not last until the end of the Ottoman Empire.

The Ottoman Empire was one of the first major Islamic powers. It was also one of the longest ruling empires over the six hundred years. In present day Turkey, while at its highest, one of the largest ruling empires controlled regions of Europe, Egypt, Balkan, and Northern Africa. The Ottoman Empire was known for its language combined with basic vocabulary and grammar in Turkish along with the Arabic language spoken by villagers.
The Ottoman Empire’s military consisted of Horse Soldiers and Foot Soldiers or Janissaries. Their military was very powerful. Janissaries consisted of male Christian prisoners of the war that were trained and taught how to become military slaves. Since they didn’t have personal ties to people in the Ottoman Empire, they were allowed to be completely invested in protecting the Sultan. The cavalry was supported by some land grants and would stay in order, collect taxes and campaign. The Ottoman Empire was led by the Conqueror Sultan Mehmed II. In 1453, the Constantinople was taken down as one of the largest and most powerful cities. As the Constantinople was taken down, this made the Ottoman Empire seem invincible. After the Ottoman Empire gained all control of the Constantinople, the Sultan then converted all of the Christian churches into Islamic Mosque. This then declared that Islam was going to be the main religion. Even though Islam was the main religion, there were still some religions practiced in the city even after the Ottoman Empire took
over.
Another very powerful Islamic empire was the Mughal Empire. It lasted around 300 years and spread across northern and southern parts of India and Afghanistan. It was found by Babur in 1526 and they practiced orthodox Muslim. After Babur died in 1530, his son ended up taken position of Sultan. His son, Akbar, ruled from 1555 to 1605 and he was credited with creating a blended culture. He built up the Mughal Empire military by granting land revenues to the officers in return of their service in the military. Shah Jehan was devoted to be his wife and after her death they built Taj Mahal in her honor. And now the Taj Mahal is one of the most famous and recognized buildings in the whole world.
