How did the Ottoman Empire Decline?
The Ottoman Empire was the largest and the last of the Islamic empires. It stretched from North Africa to the Arabian Peninsula the Cox and the Balkans Hold away to the gates of Vienna. It was by far the largest empire of its time and it was ahead of its competition in terms of production, military, science, and culture. The Ottoman society was very unique in its form and nothing similar has been seen in history ever again. The closest resemblance would be to the United States. The Ottomans were a multicultural society and did not decline because of some clash of civilizations as what some people say. After all, a major part of the Ottoman army was made up of Jews, Christians, and the other half were Muslims. It was in every sense a multicultural army with a central authority. The Ottoman Empire did not fell down in blaze fighting, and there was not a single major catastrophic events that aroused the ottomans decline. But as the American historian Will Dorant say, “A great civilization is not conquered from without until it has destroyed itself from within.” Before the Turkish Empire collapsed from the outside, it was already collapsing from the inside for many centuries. What is rolling between people is that two military defeats led to the decline and fall of the Ottomans. One was the Battle of Leponto which was in 1571, and the other one is the battle of Vienna in 1683. In the Lepanto naval engagement, the visit majority of the ottomans leas was destroyed. But within a year the ottomans replaced their entire fleet with modern ships. However, the Ottomans had lost their most experienced commanders and sailors in the battle and this has reduced the effectiveness of the ottoman navy.
