Art is a source of communication; it allows individuals from different cultures to
communicate with each other. Art is a vehicle for social change. It can also give
voice to political or social disenfranchised. The French Revolution of 1789
demonstrates how art can help lead to social upheaval. Therefore, though out my
essay I will explain how pre-revolutionary influenced the Revolution as well as how
revolutionary art supported the goals of the Revolution and post-revolution art
demonstrated the aftermath of the revolution.

Napoleon also used the Romantic period to his benefit and created
a propaganda machine which is seen in the work Napoleon Crossing the Alps. Although,
the work is seen as stiff and lifeless it adds to the power of Napoleon. Napoleon is

landscape is perfectly crafted and has very much detail in it and is not only a background,
