Three years later in 1716 his uncle died and left all his wealth and fortune, his office as president of the Bordeaux Parliament, and again his title of Baron de Montesquieu to Charles. In between the 1715 and the 1716 Charles Louis married Jeanne de Laritgue, a Protestant who was a member of the church where he had left the rule of Roman Catholicism. He became famous with his PERSIAN LETTERS in 1721 and then became even more famous with his ON THE SPIRIT OF LAWS IN 1748. Charles had this weird belief that all things had an order and those orders had to be followed. Through his studies he decided to study more carefully and scientifically the orders of government in order to see if that help reduce the problems in society and improve human life. He discovered three types of government; monarchy which was ruled by a royal as in a king or queen, republic which was ruled by an elected leader, and last but not least a despotism which was ruled by a dictator. Montesquieu said that although there were those type of governments the best one was the one where people would their own government. His most famous and known book is the Spirit of the Laws, which was published in 1748 in French and later then converted to English in 1750. This book was said to be one of the most important political science books. It consisted of two quarto volumes, including 31 books in 1,086 pages. He says in this book that he wanted to denounce the abuse that French monarchial system had and have a more equitable government for France. Charles main inspirations for this book were the works of Rene Descartes, Nicholas de Malebranche and Niccolo Machiavelli. Charles, and I quote "did not get his conclusions through his inspiration, but instead got himself a method". It also says that they were trying to find the right and wrong constitution of society with a natural law of right and wrong. This however seemed strange to Montesquieu and that is why it was sort of an alien talking to Charles situation. This book also shows that laws should reflect what individuals consider right or wrong but subjective morals and objective laws are two different things. He states that morals are related to laws because when one says that it is legal and right the other might oppose and say that it is illegal and wrong.
