another business opportunity and put his focus on the railroad industry. “In 1867, Vanderbilt acquired the central railroad and merged it with the other railroads he held.” 10 years later he extended his railroad empire, acquiring the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway, the Michigan, Southern Railway, the Michigan Southern Railroad, the Canada Southern Railroad, and the Michigan Central Railroad. Vanderbilt had many huge achievements that change the world today.
Vanderbilt changed the business world has building and huge inspiration to other businesses. He easily could kept the money for himself but instead he use it to create a university that teaches young adults. He gave 1 million dollar seed into the capital which later started Vanderbilt University. One thing that Cornelius Vanderbilt would say is, “I don’t care half so much about making money as I do about making my point, and coming out ahead.” This basically means he does not care about what people would say about his business just being a money hog. He wants people to see that it is not about the money, it is how you build your foundation to help the people around you. He proves this by donating money to make his community. Also he had a railroad business which helped people get around to do what they need to
do.
