Even if a piece of music was written by someone’s enemy, that piece of music can be enjoyed without the need of liking who wrote it or who it was written for. For example, inside the Soviet Union throughout most of the twentieth century, many great pieces of music were written by notable composers. One of which was Dmitri Shostakovich. Even though he wrote music under the Soviets, Orchestras and music groups played his music around the world. Although, his music impacted the world by offering a point of view of how Russians against the Soviet Union felt. He voiced his opinion through the music he wrote. "Even today, people wonder just what Shostakovich was trying to say"("Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5."). Many people strive to figure out what was going on inside the Union through music written for it. Now on to a more modern note, Rock and Roll is another example that connected the world with music that was appealing to increasing numbers of people and not limited to just musicians. Back in the mid-1900's, when rock was spreading throughout the Unites States, it united the Social Classes so they that the can have something common to enjoy ("America Rocks and Rolls."). Just because the latest song or a classic hit was written with a certain idea or picture in mind did not mean that others could not enjoy it. In fact, the genre of rock spread throughout the world at a rapid pace. Many people were listening to the same thing and were have a great time finding something new to listen to. In current times, many people could listen to music of their choosing or make music themselves however they see fit. Music benefits society and the people in it by connecting them all to a common ground, to something they all can enjoy. The art also impacts the individual on a great level once the can understand what it is
