Eliahu ben Shaul Cohen, (Eli Cohen) was one of Israel’s greatest Mossad agent. A loving father and husband, he wasn't only devoted to his family but also to the land of Israel. Without his sacrifices the existence of Israel would be in question. However he knew that Spying, which has existed since the earliest recorded history, is a necessary function in a nation’s self-defense; Eli Cohen put his life in danger to protect the Land of Israel because he understood that the only way to keep Israel safe, was by making a sacrifice, his life. Born in Alexandria, Egypt in the Jewish quarter on December 16,1924 to a Jewish Zionist family. His parents Shaul and Sofie Cohen left Aleppo, Syria in 1914 and emigrated to Egypt, where they felt they could properly raise a family. After being numerously arrested on suspicion of spying and repeatedly being released he was finally expelled from Egypt and eventually made aliyah by way of Naples. After arriving in Israel for a very short period of time Eli Cohen was a private citizen and not a spy. He became an accountant and also worked for HaMashbir. During this time period Eli would meet his wife Nadia and they would also have their first child together, Sophie.
