one point, the Presley's attended the Assembly of God Church in Tupelo (Ibid). As a result, gospel music became a big influence in his career (Ibid). He started singing in church as a child. Eventually, Elvis started to gain an audience and recorded his first record in 1953 at Sun Studios (Ibid). In 1955, he signed to RCA Records (Ibid). His distinctive vocal style, good looks, and slightly controversial dance moves were just a few of the factors that drew in fans (Ibid). These fans nicknamed Elvis the "King of Rock'n'Roll" (Ibid). Just as Elvis' career started to take off, he was drafted into the military in 1957. He was inducted the next March (Ibid). His mother, Gladys, died right before his deployment, so he was allowed to attend her funeral and mourn for for a few days (Ibid). Elvis then served in Germany for a year and and half (Ibid). Presley's career was booming this whole time. However, in the latest sixties, he began losing influence. He had a huge comeback with his first television special in 1968 (Ibid). Things would not be going this good for long though.
Elvis' health was steadily getting worse, and, though advised not to, he continued to keep a chaotic touring schedule (Elvis Presley).
His friends soon realized that he was acting strange and kept getting sicker and sicker. Presley's last live performance was on June 25, 1977. It was said by some that he was stumbling around the stage and at one point ripped his clothing (Elvis Presley). On August 12, 1977, a book, written by three of his bodyguards, was released telling about what they experienced while working with Elvis (Ibid). This was apparently the last straw for Elvis as he was found dead in his bathroom on August 16 (Ibid). At first his death was said to be caused by congestive heart failure, an enlarged liver, and ateriosclerosis. Drug abuse was later added to the list of his killers (Ibid). Thousand of people came to Elvis' funeral at Graceland (Ibid). He was buried beside both of his parents in the Meditation Garden behind his house (Ibid). Many books were written about him after his death, including one write emails by his ex-wife (Ibid). Graceland was eventually turned into a museum and has over a million visitors every year (Ibid). Even with his short life, Elvis still accomplished a
lot.
Elvis Presley achieved many things in his life. Most of these were in his musical career. His first single was "That's All Right" in 1954 (Biography). His first number one single, "Heartbreak Hotel," and his first number one album, Elvis Presley, were acquired in 1956 (Ibid). He Elvis also accomplished a lot in the movie industry. He signed a contract with Paramount Pictures in 1956 (Ibid). His first film was also released in 1956. It was called Love Me Tender (Ibid). Elvis' early life started off pretty average, but he eventually turned into the icon of Rock'n'Roll. Although he did not have much of a later life, his death was still a very sad and unexpected one. He left a legacy unmatched by anyone else in the music industry. Presley accomplished many great things in his short life that most people could not do in double the time.
