Early Years
After the death of Hitler’s brutal father he moved to Vienna, using his father’s inheritance. In Vienna he hoped to pursue his dream in art, however Hitler’s applications were rejected. Not long after Adolf’s life continued to degrade when he lost his mother at aged 18, due to cancer. Witnesses have said Hitler went through great depression and spent many hours sketching his mother’s dead body. With no work, no money and in deep triumph Hitler spent his time painting post cards that he hoped to sell. It was around this stage in his life, 1908 that Hitler began to develop hatred for the Jews. There is many various reason reported as to why Adolf hated the Jews. 1910 his hatred for the Jews was at an all-time high and Hitler strongly believed all the devastating events that had occurred in his life were due to the Jews. He called his time in Vienna “five years of hardship and misery.”
World War I
In February 1914, Hitler had a marvelous idea to join the Austrian Army in hopes that it would take away some of his misery.
Hitler was in the Austrian Army for four years, he was awarded two iron crosses for bravery. Adolf went through two tragic injuries while he was at war, the first one occurred October 19916. Hitler was wounded by a grenade splinter. Another major injury Hitler went through was on October 13, 1918 was from a gas attack which caused him to be temporarily blind. During the time Hitler was injured Germany surrendered. Hitler was full of anger and felt that Germany had been “stabbed in the back” by their
leader.
Entry into politics
After World War I Hitler was furious that Germany had surrendered and was determined to enter politics. In 1919, Hitler became the 55th member of a small anti-Semitic party called the German Worker's Party. Not long after Hitler became the party's leader, he then created a 25-point platform for the party. He also established a bold red background with a white circle and swastika in the middle as the party's symbol. In 1920, the party changed it’s to name to National Socialist German Worker's Party (i.e. the Nazi Party). Throughout the next few years Hitler began giving public speeches persuading others to follow him, as well as support him. In November 1923, Hitler spearheaded an attempt to take over the German government through a coup, called the Beer Hall Putsch. The coup did not succeed and he was caught and sentenced to five years in prison. While in Landsberg prison Hitler wrote a book. Only nine months later Hitler was released from Landsberg prison. When Hitler was released from prison he was determined to build the Nazi party, so he could take over the German government.
