The word propaganda is often used in a negative sense, especially for politicians who make false claims to get elected or spread rumors to get their way. In fact, any campaign that is used to persuade can be called propaganda. War is a state of armed conflict between societies. It is generally characterized as extreme aggression, destruction, and usually high mortality. Adolf Hitler combined these two terms into one, and strategically did so in the psychological warfare of World War II. Hitler used propaganda in a handful of ways, and made a war weapon of it. He intended to dehumanize, maneuver, and to decept the nation in insidious ways, and propaganda was a main contributor. Influences worldwide were…

On the back of this development that saw architects in Europe questioning this reliance on the past for artistic inspiration, was the resurgence of pan- German nationalism. (Individuals in Modern History : Leni Riefenstahl & Albert Speer, Frappell, 2002, pg. 61-62) It is through this renaissance movement that saw architecture becoming a significant part of Nazi propaganda, despite the initial Nazi concept of “blunt und boden” which characterised the debate over “the city versus the country”. Like the great states in antiquity, Hitler wanted the stone ruins of Nazism to be a reminder a thousand years into the future of the grandeur of National Socialism. (Albert Speer - Personality Study, Kelly, 2012, pg. 15) Speer helped fulfil Hitler’s desires in his early work in the Nazi Party by impressing Hitler with his May Day rally and Nuremberg Rally designs that saw the strong incorporation of monumental neo-Classical features. Speer noted that the iron and steel reinforcement used in modern buildings, ultimately made a building look unattractive when it deteriorated. Speer felt that…

An influential person is someone who changes society, for better or for worse. Literature can be an extremely powerful tool of persuasion. One man with one idea has the potential to influence hundreds, thousands, or even millions of people through writing. In fact, one particularly influential piece of literature convinced an entire population of people to ostracize, shun, and even murder their fellow citizens. Compelling texts such as Hitler’s Mein kampf allow me to believe that literature could be considered propaganda. These pieces of literature, when written to pacify a specific audience, can strongly appeal to humanity’s “passions”, as Plato suggests. I believe that authors use literature as a vehicle to demonstrate their personal beliefs and influence their audience to share those beliefs.…

The capacity to survive the holocaust as a result of honing these undesirable traits makes him feel justified to maintain them even after the war. He feels that these traits were positive and desirable during his time of difficulty and as such he needs to ensure he passes them on to Art, so as to equip him with the traits necessary to make him a survivor as well (Spiegelman 73). However, in the post-war world, these traits are not desirable or positive and lead to his character being considered aggravating to those people around him. The experiences from the holocausts served to crystalize these traits and embed them further into becoming a part of him. This ingrained behaviors later become the cause of many divergent opinions between him and…
