Newton kept a second set of notes for himself named “Certain Philosophical Questions”. Those notes would lead the way for the Scientific Revolution. He did not graduate Cambridge with any distinction. However, he did receive the title of scholar and four years of future education financially covered. Later, a professor resigned and Newton took his place.
His first major public invention was created to prove his theory on light and color correct. The Royal Society was intrigued by his discoveries and encouraged him to pursue them. Because of his fame, however, he earned a rival by the name of Robert Hooke. Taking Hooke’s criticism harshly, Newton threatened to leave the Royal Society. He went into hibernation from the public when he suffered a nervous breakdown and his mother passed away. For six years Newton would isolate himself from other intellectuals unless they initiated the conversation.
When a fellow scientist, Edmond Halley, went to visit Newton in Cambridge and asked him to work out a problem mathematically and to publish his findings.
