Leonardo was born on April 15, 1452, in Vinci, Italy just outside of Florence. Da Vinci father was an illegitimate man name Ser Piero. His mother, Caterina had married another man when Vinci was young and had started a new family. While his mother kept having kids it left Leonardo with 17 1/2 brothers and sisters. In 1508 The Horse and Rider was made. The Duke of Milan commissioned Vinci to build the Sculpture to stand over the Dukes Castle to Honor his father. It stood 24 feet tall over the castle. Leonardo had spent many, many years trying to model it just right. The 24 foot tall clay model was turned it bronze. The Non-Profit group, organization had found the model in Milan, Italy in 1999. They had later brought the sculpture to Grand Rapids, Michigan. When it was opened to the public it had brought Da Vinci's Beloved sculpture back to life.
