The Renaissance man also known as Leonardo da Vinci was a very talented painter. He was born on April 15, 1452 in Vinci, Italy. His father’s name was Ser Pedro da Vinci and his mother name was Caterina da …show more content…
Vinci which was a slave who was owned by Leonardo’s father Pedro. Leonardo lived with his father growing up. At the age of fourteen he started sketching and really getting into the thought of art. He began to paint in Florence as an individual painter (Academic Kids).
The painting I chose by Leonardo was the “Last Supper.” The material he used was paint, but back in the 1652 the painting would be destroyed by the moisture context the room had. The dimension of this painting is 346.46 inch wide × 181.10 inch high (Creative Commons). The piece is eye catching because of all the different vibrant colors and all of the detail put into the last supper. He really took the last supper story from the bible and put it into perspective. I would say that the mountain in the back windows are not too appealing because in the bible it does says that the last supper was taken place in Jerusalem which is like a desert not a pretty mountain scenery. Leonardo put a lot of effort into this piece and the only improvement I would give him is the mountain scene. This piece has inspired me because I am really religious and it makes me really see the real idea and what really happen at the last supper. Michelangelo di Ludovico Buonarroti was one of the most famous Italian Renaissance artist. He was born March 6, 1475 to a business family that dealt with banking. When he was a baby his mother was diagnosed with a serious illness and he was not allowed to be breast feed by his mom. They set him to a family in which they cut stone for a living so he can get the nutrients he needed. As Michelangelo grew he didn’t like the thought of going to school to get an education; instead, he loved watching painters paint at his local church. He was 13 years old and his father knew he didn’t like the family business so he let his son be a painter and follow his dreams. When Michelangelo died just weeks before his 89th birthday after being sick for a short time he was named the “father and master of all the arts (Bio.).
The sculptor I chose was Michelangelo and it is a sculpture of the “Pieta” which is our Blessed Mother Mary holding Jesus when he was taken off the cross on Good Friday. The dimensions of the statue is 68.5 in × 76.8 in. by 174 cm × 195 cm (Totally History). The materials used to make this was a big block of marble that he carved into this beautiful statue. The eye catching/ focus point of this sculpture is Jesus laying across his mother because it is so detailed with the dead weight that his body and his head is tilted back. You can see the bones which indicates that he was suffering on the cross just like the bible says he did. I would say that Mary’s face is a bit to childish because for her to have a thirty year old son and look like she is 14 again when she said yes to God is amazing. Overall, this is my favorite statue. I have the same statue in my parish and it is beautiful just like this one.
“The Prince of Painters” or as you may know him as Raffaello (Raphael) Sanzio. He was born April 6, 1483 in Italy. Raphael always had a need to paint because his father Giovanni Sanzio was a painter at a college. Raphael taught him what basic things he would need to be a painter and all of the different techniques. When Raphael was 11 years old his father passed away leaving him his father’s painting workshop. The two Sanzio father and son were the best painters in town, with Raphael only been a teen this still made him the best painter in his hometown. Raphael role models for art were Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo di Ludovico Buonarroti. All of the painting he did were related and similar to what the other two painters did (Bio.).
The painting I chose done by Raphael is the “School of Athens.” The dimensions of this painting is 200 in.
× 300 in. by 500 cm. × 770 cm (Total History). This painting sure has a lot of people shown in it, but every person is meant to be someone. The man sitting on the front steps leaning of a cube of marble is depicted to be Michelangelo di Ludovico Buonarroti because he loved to make sculptures of marble. If you look in the center of his painting the man to the left with the red robe on is meant to be Leonardo da Vinci. The person to Leonardo’s right with the blue robe on is meant to be Aristotle. If you really at look Leonardo and Aristotle’s hands they are saying something. Leonardo’s hand is pointing upwards to the Heavens. Aristotle has his right hand casting saying let there be positive spirit (Euro Travelogue). What really doesn’t work for this painting would be the red box in the front of the painting because the other side doesn’t have it and it would look better if it had it on both sides. This art work really inspires me because it is telling me to follow my role models and find what is interesting about them and paint a picture myself to depict what they stand for such as their careers like Raphael
did.
