Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, commonly known as Lewis Carroll, was born on January 27, 1832 in Cheshire, England to Reverend Charles Dodgson and Frances Jane Lutwidge. He was the oldest of eleven brothers and sisters and attended Rugby School and later Christ Church at Oxford, where he majored in Mathematics. It is even said that Carroll’s stutter went away completely when speaking to children. Eventually, Carroll met Henry George Liddell, where he met Alice Liddell and her sisters. Carroll spent much time with the girls, taking their pictures and telling them fantastic stories to amuse them. This is where Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was born. Carroll, however, eventually lost connection with the Liddells and it is believed the the sequel to Alice is about his cousin, rather than the Liddell girl. Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is Carroll’s most well-known work by far. Alice was officially released in 1865 and was an instant success. In fact, by the time Lewis died, Alice was the most popular book in England and by 1932, the most popular in the world. The book was published by George MacDonald and the illustrations were done by Sir John Tenniel. Many of the characters were modeled after Alice’s friends and, in the case of the Dodo,
