` Known as Marie Curie, Maria Sklodowska was born in Warsaw, Poland on November 7, 1867. Her siblings were Jozef, Zoasia, Bronya, and Hela; her parents were both teachers. Marie and her sister, Bronya, both wanted to be able to get a good education abroad, but this would result in a financial problem. Bronya and Marie made a plan, where they would both work to save up money to send Bronya abroad for education. Then, Bronya would save up money for Marie to do the same once she settled abroad (Birch 14). Soon, Marie Curie finally reached Paris. When Marie Curie went to her lectures, she was shocked to find out that they were all spoken in French, a language Marie Curie had never learned. Since she was determined to learn chemistry and physics, she learned French (Birch 22). Finally after exams all the sacrifice pulled through successfully, for she was the top student in her class. This lead to her receiving her mathematics degree in 1894 (Birch 24). Marie Curie was inspired by a French scientist named Henri Becqueral, a scientist that was researching about X-rays.
