"I Have a Dream.. " speech that was delivered at the March on Washington woke America up f rom the unfair treatment of blacks. Soon after this moving speech, the Jim Crow Laws were deemed unconstitutional , meaning that all public facilities were to be integrated. His dream has impacted and molded our country to what it is today, because of his continued determination, sacrifice, and bravery.
At the age of three, I was introduced to Martin Luther King, and as I’ve grown up I have a better understanding of who he is.
Dr.King's wisdom, intellect, and ability to lead masses of people is what inspires me day by day. He has taught me to stand up for what I believe in and to be brave when doing it. Also, that we can overcome and endure any challenging situation if we have faith in God. Without Martin Luther King’s dream becoming a reality, I would not be able to participate or even be considered for the extracurricular activities that I am in. I also would not be able to receive the tools I need to complete my school courses. During the decades of segregation, Blacks were not offered many books and if they were they were not of good quality or recent issue. King once said ,"We have before us the opportunity to inject a new dimension of love into the veins of civilization." In the near future, I aspire to advocate for my beliefs and to serve a nd spread love to my community to make a big impact on the world just as Martin Luther King did. I am truly grateful for Dr.King’s work and I will stand firm to make his legacy live
on.
On the third Monday of every year, is the federal holiday to celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. People celebrate by going to a local parade to unify the city and they have programs educating young people on his works. Although, these things are fun and should can continue to happen I believe as a citizen we could do much more. On that day we should all stand up for what we believe in with dignity. We should serve our communities to let his success live on. Lastly, we should visit his monuments to show our respects to a man who lost his life fighting to get equal rights for our country.
