How Does Atticus Fight Against Evil
Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who experienced evil everyday and never became evil himself. Martin Luther King Jr. was the leader of the Civil rights movement in the United States from 1950’s to his death in 1968. Martin got his Ph.D and was awarded with his degree when he was only twenty five-years old! He had many tactics to fight against segregation. His first Boycott was on segregation with public transportation which was currently a law in Montgomery, Alabama. It started when a fifteen year old girl (Colvin) refused to give up her bus seat to a white man and got arrested. The NAACP fought to challenge the segregation policy of Montgomery. less credible in the eyes of the sympathetic whites. They eventually succeeded in abolishing the transportation segregation policy after fourty-two old Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for white men. Rosa was found guilty and fined ten dollars plus the four dollar court fee. The NAACP challenged the policy once again and succeeded, leaving the city with major financial losses forcing them to lift the public transportation segregation policy (Martin Luther King Jr. Web.). As you can see Martin Luther King Jr. experienced evil with segregation and fighting to give black people more rights. Although Martin Luther King Jr experienced evil on a daily basis, In the book, To Kill a Mockingbird, Jem and Scout experienced evil yet never became evil.

Jem and scout are young and have not experienced the world very much but they are not too young to be exposed to evil. Atticus, Jem and Scout’s dad, Tries his hardest to make sure Jem and Scout don’t have to ever experience evil but he knows that there is no way to not too. At the time, Atticus is defending a black man, Tom Robbinson, and a lot of the town disagrees with it. Since Atticus is defending Tom, A lot of the kids give Jem and Scout a hard time because of what their parents tell them. In the book, Atticus says, “What bothers me is that Scout and Jem will have to asorb some pretty ugly things soon. I’m not worried about Jem keeping his head but Scout would just as soon jump someone as look at him if her pride is at stake.” (To Kill a Mockingbird Page 116). After the trial the kids experience evil on a dramatic scale. They were walking home from a pagent that Scout was in on Halloween, when Jem and Scout got jumped by Bob Ewell. He was trying to kill the kids but was fought off and killed by Arthur “Boo” Radley. The kids took the attack and learned from it. They came to realize that there are evil people in the world and there is nothing you can do about it. Whether it is a town of people that think it’s a crime to defend a black man just because he’s black, or a man that is so upset that he was made a fool of on a public trial, to try and kill children.
