In 1903, there was a march called “The March of the Mill Children.” Mother Jones started this march by getting 10,000 children together who had a job. The march lasted for a couple weeks, starting in Philadelphia and ending in New York. The Child Labor movement started because children were working many hours under harsh conditions and they got paid very little. As a result of children working under harsh conditions, the Child Labor movement was formed and has shaped the narrative of human history because it established safety for working children.
The beginning of the Child Labor Movement began with a combination of perseverance and inspiration. When Mother Jones first found out about child labor, she was determined to demolish it. In the 20th century, she contributed many speeches that inspired people to make a change in regards to child labor (“Mother Jones 1837-1930”). At the age of 82, Mother Jones went to jail for the second time. When she went to jail, she was willing to do anything to end Child Labor, even if it meant going to jail. First, Stephen B. Wood changed the way people view Child Labor. The majority of people thought it would benefit social institution. Wood convinced people that child labor is very dangerous and that children are getting less and less education Afterwards, in 1836, the National Trades Union was the first to have a minimum age limit in order to work for them.
