Ida M Cannon
Ida M. cannon, born in Milwaukee on july 27th, 1877. Ms. ida was the third child out of her four siblings in a stable two parent home. Ms. Ida was prominent in many ways in the social work community, she showed highlights in her career and great attributes. In this paper i will discuss Ms.Ida’s path to working in the social work field; along with her most important contributions. I will also discuss Ms.Ida influences on me and my decision in my social work path.
During Ms.Ida career path to becoming a social worker she was responsible for developing the first social work department in a hospital in the United States. Ms. Cannon also believed that medical practice could not be effective without examination of illness and social conditions of a patient. Ms. Cannon dad was her motivation. Ms. Ida Cannon dedicated her life’s work into incorporating social work in the medical field. Ms.cannon understood the beneficial effects of having a positive social environment in conjunction with taking medication. One of her most significant contributions to the field was establishing the department of social work in a hospital. She also wrote “social work in hospitals” which discuss the influence of social in the medical field. She also co-founded the American association of hospital social workers. According to researchers Ms.Cannon had a big passion to help others due to a change of hearts and change of career which was influenced by her professor Jane Addams who gave her a lecture about the living conditions of the poor that changed her life and outlook about life. Ms.cannon was desperate to deepened her understanding of her connections between
