In 1769 on the island of Corsica, Napoleon Bonaparte was born. He was born into a family with political ties and attended military academies. This helped him rise through military ranks during the French Revolution. He held the title as the commander of the Army of the Interior and also became a trusted advisor to the French Directory. His success as a military leader gained his popularity by many people and Napoleon became apart of a group that overthrew the French Directory. Soon after in 1802 he named himself 1st Consul, than in 1804 he named himself Emperor of the French. Napoleon saw France as the new Roman Empire but better; and with Paris it’s new Rome. He wanted to conquer Europe as the Romans had, while securing religious peace with the Pope. This included a large-scale warfare against Britain. The Egyptian style was introduced to Napoleon during one of his military crusades. The furniture reflected Napoleon by being more masculine, and heavily embodied with military symbols.
