As Napoleon progressed, his power agonized from corruption at the expense of the French populace. It’s been said that Napoleon personally did not believe in following the principals of the French Revolution during his entire reign. However, he was required to supply the few basic rights of the French Revolution which only eventually benefited himself. Napoleon dishonored almost every principle delineated in the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen in order to benefit his own means. Nevertheless, Napoleon did though support several principles, primarily manifested with the Napoleonic Code.
Over the time Napoleon continued fulfill his role during the early French Revolution by changing and reinforcing everyday life in France.
He made sure the instruction ideas of religious tolerance, and equality among men were upheld. He also established ways to promote the education of young boys. Napoleon believed in promotion due to talent and merit rather than birth and passed laws to allow easier access for the lower class. The Civil Code reinforced previously removed freedoms such as liberty, choice of profession, and religious worship. Science and other progressive studies were encouraged and rewarded. He then returned to a male-controlled society, with men at the tops of society and their families at home. Women were subjugated again, and he limited their education and careers. But brought back nobility the legion of honor. Voting rights were removed, and he personally placed people into positions. He continued forced drafts, and demanded high taxes to support his war effort. Although not as bad as the terror, he still suppressed any political
descent.
