How Did Newton Contribute To The Scientific Revolution
Prior to the 1500’s, Europeans lived their daily lives relying greatly on the authority of the church and ancient Greek and Roman authors, basing their perception of the world directly by the Bible. However, these institutions of authority tended to reject new ideas due to the fear of losing power once contradicting theories take the place of those written in the Bible. For most Europeans, change was frightening and difficult to grasp, causing very few individuals to challenge the church by making their own observations. However, beginning in 1543, Europe began to undergo a new era of science, reason, and willingness to accept new ideas. An English scientist, Isaac Newton, helped to bring together the observations of Copernicus, Kepler, and Galileo in a single theory of motion. Using his physics and mathematics background, Newton was able to connect the fact that all physical objects were affected equally by the same forces with space. He discovered that the same force caused the motion of the matter on earth and in space and planets. His law of universal gravitation also linked motion in the heavens with the motion of the earth since “every object in the universe attracts every other object”. One of the most important scientific books, The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, written by Newton was where he described how he views the universe. He introduces the idea that the universe is a machine that operates based on natural law, or the unchanging conditions of humans. He described the universe as a clock with all of its different parts working perfectly together, being able to be expressed mathematically. Furthermore, Newton believed that God created the universe to be orderly in order to properly function. By utilizing the advances made before him by other scientists, Newton was able to draw conclusions and finalize the theories made before him. These discoveries made by Newton completely changed the way Europeans saw the universe and how natural law was able to govern human

    He played a huge part in the scientific revolution. He invented the Newtonian telescope that was the first functional reflecting telescope. Another one of his accomplishments was publishing a book in 1687 called Philosophiae Naturalis Principia Mathematica that translates to “Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy.” In his book he gave us the three laws of Motion.     Sir Isaac Newton was an English physicist and mathematician. He was born December 25, 1642. Newton is credited with creating calculus with Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
