How Did Rwanda Gain Independence
Rwanda gained full independence on July 1, 1962. Its independence was granted by the UN General Assembly. The General Assembly also granted to Burundi at the same time. As an independent nation, Rwanda started to put themselves on the map. Rwanda established relations with 43 countries. The United States were among those counties.

After gaining independence, Rwanda was in need of a president. Gregoire Kayibanda was Rwanda’s first elected president. President Kayibanda was the leader of the Parmehutu Party. Rwanda’s government began to have inefficiency and corruption, which resulted in the military taking over. Major General Juvenal Habyarimana took power. Habyarimana dissolved the National Assembly and the Parmehutu Party. He also abolished
