The Cold War started to make its appearance over the difference of opinion between Soviet and America on handling Eastern Europe. The Soviet believed in spoils of war and wanted to expand Soviet influence. America disagreed; Soviets Union objected strongly, but neither country was eager to go to war that prohibited any Soviet expansion throughout Europe.
The Future of Germany
The United States wanted the Germany industries revived in order to contribute to European economy Whereas Soviet Union wanted retribution from all the devastation that occurred in the war. Unable to come to mutual agreement Germany was demilitarize and divided into four zones.

Winston Churchill used the term “Iron Curtain” to describe the Soviet grip on Eastern and Central Europe. Soviet Union controlled the countries along the western border for nearly 50 years, except for Finland, which remained neutral.
