How did the Columbian Exchange contribute to the rise of European colonialism and imperialism?
The Columbian Exchange contributed to the rise of European colonialism and imperialism in several ways. Those ways include the development of the slaves brought to the Americas and the disease and deaths of the Native populations. As the Europeans were on their way to the “New World,” they brought along some diseases and illnesses with them. Those diseases include smallpox, the Black Plague, etc. These diseases devastated the Native Populations in the Americas, wiping out many communities and over half of the indigenous population.
