In 1806, Napoleon established the Continental System though the Napoleonic Decree. The system was designed to prevent Europe nations from importing British exports and forcing neutral nations to stop trading with Britain. As a response Britain issued several Orders in Council in 1807, such as blockading France and its allied. As both countries attempted to destroy each other, their tactics affected American commerce.
