An event the magnitude of the Holocaust could happen again since no state will admit a genocide is occurring in their neighboring state. In the article, "US chose to ignore Rwandan genocide", the author states how the U.S. ignored the genocide happening in Rwanda and will deny it being
a genocide: "Senior officials privately used the word genocide within 16 days of the start of the killings, but chose not to do so publicly because the president had already decided not to intervene" (US chose to ignore Rwandan genocide). After the U.S. heard that Rwanda was not a mineral filled city, he publicly announced that a war was going on and inside, he knew that a genocide was occurring but did not want the public to know. Also, the U.S. did not want to waste their resources and troops if they were not going to get anything in return. In the article, “Dafur Conflict”, the author explains how the U.N. denying the Janjaweed genocide happening and not sending aid to help stop the genocide: “A U.N.-appointed commission concluded in 2005 that no genocide had taken place, but said there had been heinous war crimes no less serious than genocide” (Dafur Conflict). The U.N. did not want the public freaking out over a genocide happening in their neighboring state, so they said that the Genocide was just a little war and nothing to freak out over.
