The South opposed the idea of using low paid workers and such as females and immigrants because they relied heavily on slave labor. The south had very fertile land and lots of cotton plantations so, they felt that with the slave labor they were well off and did not need to become urban and they could remain an agricultural society. However, with the Northeast becoming industrialized and the South keeping their traditional ways this led to many economic and political issues. Many farmers had to have banks foreclose their land. This caused many issues in the south and west alone leading to great resentment of the North. Whereas the North was doing well and wanted the bank to help them industrialize to improve the transportation system across the country. The South obviously opposed this because they were too focused on the matters of their plantations and getting more slaves. Therefore, the north was trying to not allow for new states to allow slavery because they did not want to lose representatives in congress and have the south take over the country because there would be no Industrial
