“Approximately 102 Puritans left for sail in America” (University of Virginia. “Pilgrims and Puritans”).
One would think that life would be perfect, now that the Puritans achieved success. With success comes obstacles. Ironically, they ran from persecution into the hands of their own persecution. Fortunately, their coping mechanisms through religion was extremely advanced; therefore, they trudged through numerous obstacles to create the early America.

Another disadvantage for the Puritans was the abrupt relocation. The Puritans were originally planned to land in Virginia. Due to the inclement weather, their ship was relocated, which ended up in Boston, Massachusetts. “If I keep in, I must die with hunger, and if I go out, I must be knocked in head. These three quotes involving Bradstreet and Rowlandson show that both these Puritans faced similar problems except were given different situations. In “Captivity” Rowlandson showed the reader that she battled for survival to get back to her husband, but the reader also saw how the same obstacles negatively affected the Indians.
