Another way to see the renaissance views in mankind is literature.
In the medieval morality play Everyman. The focus is on death, sin, and the final reckoning when god decides if Everyman is going to heaven or hell (Doc B). But, in William Shakespeare writing during the renaissance, it celebrates man's nature , beauty, the most perfect of all animals (Doc B). Medieval Everyman seems powerless as he approaches judgement , while Shakespeare lives life to the fullest displaying the action of angles and understanding of
god.
A third way to see how the renaissance changed man's view on man is in astronomy . With the new discovery by Copernicus that the sun was at the center of the universe during the renaissance completely shattered the old theory of Ptolemy that the earth was the center of the universe (Doc 3). This led to a new understanding of humanity. It also proved that the Catholic Church and the pope were wrong . It led to people thinking that if the Church was wrong about that, what else could they be wrong about? Man would start to rely on his own self to figure out how things work .
The Renaissance really opened the door to the Protestant reformation, the scientific revolution, and even political change. All of these movements sprang in some way from the big renaissance idea that changed the concept of what it means to be human.
