A group of Patriots, including me dressed up as Native Americans and boarded a ship that held tons of tea. We then threw 343 cases of tea into the harbor to protest the Tea Act. 90,000 pounds of tea were thrown into the harbor. Tensions grew even more and this led to the Intolerable Acts.
The Intolerable Acts’ name was given by the colonists. They were intolerable and very unfair. These laws were passed in 1773 and they closed port of Boston, increased the Governor’s power, abolished Massachusetts legislature, and cut powers of town meetings. We were not happy about these acts and demanded a repeal. But, this act helped unite the colonies even more. Food and supplies poured into Boston to help these people. We stuck together to fight for Independence. Colonists needed to discuss what they were going to do next. So, a meeting was set up called the First Continental Congress.
In 1774, delegates from all colonies except for Georgia met in Philadelphia. We demanded a repeal of the Intolerable Acts and said that they have the right to tax and govern ourselves. In addition, we also called for training of militias to stand up to the British troops of necessary and also called for a new boycott on British goods.
