How Did The Wright Brothers Impact On History
Wright Brothers Impact History Dramatically

Can you imagine what our world would be like today if we didn’t have airplanes? We wouldn’t be able to hop on and get somewhere in a jiffy. Travel would take a lot longer, which would mean less time for fun activities. The outcome of World War I, as well as any other war following it could have been completely different. Planes are a huge convenience to so many people. They are probably one of the most important inventions ever. Orville and Wilbur Wright changed history on December 17, 1903 at Kill Devil Hill, right outside of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina (Rosenberg). The Wrights invented the first airplane which aided in the fighting of World War I and created a new form of transportation.

The Wright’s began with a four cylinder, eight horsepower, gasoline engine that weighed 152 pounds; which took them six weeks to build. After experimenting several times with the engine, they

The Wright’s sold their first plane to the United States Army in 1909, and by 1915 the Wright’s had supplied the Army with fourteen airplanes (Military Use of the Airplane). In the beginning, the main role of the airplane in the war was for observation, but it didn’t take long for men to start adding guns to make the plane a war machine. Frenchman Roland Garros attached a machine gun to his plane, making an attempt to synchronise with the propeller and using metal bands to deflect bullets from this vital piece. After a brief period of aerial dominance Garros crashed, and the Germans were able to study his craft. Anthony Fokker, who was working for the Germans, created interrupter gear to allow a machine gun to be shot and miss the propeller. The Germans wanted Anthony to take it for a test flight and shoot down a French plane. He agreed, however when he had a French plane in his sights, he could not fire. He said “the Germans can do the killing, I have no issues with the French”

Though they invented the airplane, many prototypes of the airplane already existed, but none of them were controllable. The Wright Brothers’ love for airplanes started when they were little. They had recieved a rubber band powered helicopter, which was of course, uncontrollable. From there, they didn’t do much more regarding airplanes until later. The first job that the Wright Brothers had had no correlation to making airplanes, as they both worked in a print shop. As a hobby they started to fix, and create bikes out of spare parts, this hobby eventually evolved into a job for the brothers. Their time in fixing bikes resparked their love for inventing, bringing airplanes back into the picture. Creating the bikes also gave the bros experience with creating transportation…

On December 17, 1903 crewmen John Daniels, Will Dough, Adam Etheridge, W.C. Binkley, and Johnny Moore, a teenager from Nags Head, would witness an event that would change the world forever. The Wright Brothers would make history in achieving the first sustained air flight. While this flight lasted only 12 seconds, it was nevertheless the first in the history of the world in which a machine carrying a man had raised itself by its own power into the air, had flown forward without reducing speed, and had finally landed at a point as high as that from which it…

This guy accomplished such an amazing achievement for the field of civil engineering. With this achievement people around the world were able to truly see what civil engineering could do for society. Benjamin Wright is by far the most influential American civil engineer there has been in American history. Which is why “in 1969 the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) declared him ‘The Father of American Civil Engineering’” (Benjamin Wright: The Father of American Civil Engineering). That shows a lot because even though he died in 1842, he was still awarded being the “Father of American Civil Engineering” over a hundred years later. That proves that Wright had overcome some major complications. It also proves that Benjamin Wright had contributed a lot towards society. In a hundred and twenty-seven years no one was able to top his achievements. If he hadn’t succeeded with Erie Canal then trade with the Great Lakes and the Atlantic Ocean would be extremely…

World War II saw the advancement of the aircraft into what we know today. Prior to World War II aircraft were made of wood and did not go very fast and were not suitable to wartime use. World War II saw the first aluminum aircraft. World War II allowed aircraft to be used for fighter missions, reconnaissance missions, as bombers, and many other types of missions. A wooden aircraft could not take the kind of damage that the aluminum aircraft could take and keep flying. Nor could a wooden aircraft carry the same amount of ammunitions as their lighter aluminum counterparts could carry. Compared to the aluminum aircraft wooden airplanes were heavy and bulky. Along with the improved aircraft came the first test of the aircraft carrier. The first aircraft carrier was built from the keel up as an aircraft carrier in 1925 which was the USS Saratoga, but it remained untested as a war machine until World War II (Pomar, Pawlowski, & Reynolds, 2013). The aircraft carrier was one of the most important inventions used in World War II. It allowed the combatants of the war to launch planes from a safe distance away from their target so that the carrier did not come under fire. However even if the carriers did come under fire they were equipped with their own cannons, quadruple- mount cannons, and heavy caliber anti-aircraft machine guns. They were floating tanks that housed…

The Wright Brothers were the ones who invented the airplane. The airplane has made huge advantages in the things that we do every day. Everyday people have a package that we miraculously transport to some other persons house. The way that we do this is by shipping, which took a long time 150 years ago mostly by train or car, mostly by an airplane. We have to thank the Wright Brothers for the ease of being able to ship things all across the world in a quarter of the time it would take without the airplane. Also they made it easier to travel wherever we want. Before we had to take a train or go by car which took days to weeks to travel to another state. Now, thanks to the invention of the airplane, we could fly across the country in 6 hours, which is so much easier than it used to be before. The airplane not only aided everyday people but also the armed forces. It aided the armed forces in fighting wars, they could attack from above. Just imagine not being able to attack from and having to fight on the ground, it is very tough. When you attack form above you get to see the whole battle field and not just 100 feet in front of you. It also allows you to survey the land before hand so you can accurately plan your battle. That is a huge advantage when it is a life or death situation such as war, which is a…

Shortly after the first flight, wars broke out across the world. Immediately engineers tried to find a way to get an edge in a combat situation. This edge came in the way of aerial combat support for the troops on the ground. As the technology improved, the design, strength, and functionality of combat aircraft has improved. From the P-40 Warhawk, to the P-51 Mustang, to the F-4 Phantom, to the F-14 Tomcat, F-15 Strike Eagle, and F-16 Viper, the technology improved time and again, making air superiority a key part of American warfare.…
