Thomas met, and fell in love with Martha Wayles Skelton, a recent widow and one of the wealthiest women in Virginia. They got married January 1, 1772. They also had 6 children together, but only 2 survived into adulthood, Martha, their first born, and Mary, their 4th. Jefferson was a slave owner, and in the 1900’s, scientists did a DNA test on Thomas Jefferson and another person because people have said that he had kids with one of his slaves, Sally Hemmings. It was proved that he did have kids with Hemmings. They got that idea because she was the only slave set free after Jefferson’s death. Jefferson loved science and technology, he invented a Jefferson Disk. The Jefferson Disk is a wheel that has Latin letters on it, you chose your letters you needed to write with, and then you would be able to write in Latin.
