The formal start of the Second World War was when Adolph Hitler, the chancellor of Germany, violated the treaty of Versailles, which had prevented the Germans from having a vast military. At the time, many European countries were experiencing problems of their own, which altered their focus from Adolph Hitler and Germany. Meanwhile, Hitler formed an alliance with Italy and annexed Austria and parts of Czechoslovakia. Hitler now feared that if the Soviet Union and West form an alliance, his plans would be foiled, so he decided to make an alliance of his own with the Soviet leader, Joseph Stalin. This alliance ensured Hitler’s control over Poland. In the meantime, China and Japan were at war. The United States applied economic sanctions on Japan unless it stopped the attacks on China. After a couple of weeks, he resumed his attacks on the Netherlands, France, and Belgium. Many countries were in desperate hope that the United States would help them, but the U.S. strictly followed its isolationism policy. Hitler also bombed Britain because of their attack on Berlin. Britain was remaining in the war because they were depending on the Soviet Union. Hitler saw this as an opportunity to attack the Soviet Union as he saw their military as being weak and inefficient, but instead the Soviets counter-attacked as the Germans were not ready for the winter
