In the beginning of the book Charlie was different from other human beings, He was a retarded adult and had an IQ of about 60 which is very low for a 32-year-old. He lived in an apartment by himself and worked at a bakery where workers made fun of him and he didn’t really realize it. Charlie wasn’t treated well but he couldn’t understand but he laughed at them making fun of him and he didn’t realize. He goes to a lab where they have a mouse named Algernon. Algernon had a special procedure done to him to make him smarter and Charlie wanted an operation like that too. It has never been done to a human but he wanted the operation either way kind of knowing that there is a possibility that it might fail badly. The operation was only temporary but no one knew that. Charlie wasn’t mad that he was becoming dumb because he kind if missed being dumb. The dumber he got the less problems he had and he was becoming more sympathetic. People at the lab recommended Charlie to go to the Warren State Home when he became dumb and Charlie didn’t disagree about that. He didn’t get mad and he was fine. He wanted to go visit the Warren State Home to see how it was going to be and he went and got a tour. All Charlie wanted was for some on to put flowers on Algernon’s grave when he was
