So the question is, does civil disobedience negatively or positively affect society? In my opinion, it has a positive impact. Civil disobedience was brought up through Gandhi, an indian civil rights protestor. Gandhi left a mark on the world that would later introduce Americans to the idea. It shows that you have opinions, interests, and the ability to fight for what you believe in. Shows that one is fearless and is strong in their beliefs and wants in life. Their aspirations are strong. Muhammad Ali was a good example for civil disobedience. Ali fought against the draft. Many claim that he avoided the draft but he “stood firmly in the proud tradition of civil disobedience, saying ‘just take me to jail’”. Ali accepted the legal consequences and went to jail for 5 years."Colonists fought taxation without representation in the Boston Tea Party.If it weren't for that act of defiance, Americans would have continued to pay obscene taxes and the Revolutionary War would not have happened.Nelson Mandela encouraged the citizens of South Africa to participate in the Purple Rain Protest and Cape Town Peace March to denounce apartheid.Martin Luther King Jr. spent the last part of his life giving hope and possibility to those who were not sure what was ahead for them. If it were not for this movement, African-Americans would not have the opportunities they have today and the opportunities that every American citizen has the right to claim would not exist.And our country would not now be led by its first African-American president.Civil disobedience is peaceful.
