Grenville uses natural imagery to portray their personal bond; them being together feels like “a process of nature, a seed bursting out of the dirt or a flower unfurling from the bud.” This suggests that it is completely normal for the pair to be together, as it is normal for a flower to grow out of a seed. The metaphors used also insinuates that their relationship feels like a new blossoming life for them both. Furthermore a flower coming out of a bud represents the beauty that Will is able to find inside of Sal during even the most unconventional situations. This idea is further reinforced when Will say that he enjoys “watching the thoughts dancing beneath the skin.” This metaphor shows that Will is able to understand what Sal is thinking just by interpreting her thoughts. The verb “dancing” insinuates that Will thinks that Sal’s ideas inside her are beautiful and graceful like a dancer.
