How Lady Macbeth reveals her true self through guilt. In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, a character that is portrayed as evil is Lady Macbeth. Because of her controlling nature and immense want for masculinity most readers see her as evil. She is not evil because she does not commit murders herself and she also displays feelings of remorse and guilt towards the end of the play. She even reveals that she has the capability of feeling when she shows remorse for her father: “Had he not resembled may father was he slept, I had done’t” (II.ii. 12-13). Lady Macbeth expresses that if King Duncan did not resemble her father she would have killed him which indicates she does contain emotional feelings. Lady Macbeth realizes that the murder of King Duncan transforms Macbeth into a murderous savage. In this realization, Lady Macbeth feels remorseful for Macbeth’s numerous wrongdoings.
